Dr. Charles L. AKERS, 57 died today. Born in Putnam County, Washington Twp near Reelsville, he is survived by his wife, sons Charles Jr. Robert and daughters Jerry.

Greencastle, Ind Dec 2 – Dr. Charles L. Aker, 57, coroner of Putnam County died in an ambulance today after he was shot 5 times with an automatic rifle. Police said they believed he shot himself accidentally when the gun went off as he lifted it out of his automobile in the garage of his apartment. Three employees of the post office next door to the Aker home said they saw Aker stumble from the garage and fall in the driveway. They called an ambulance and he was taken toward Putnam County hospital. Aker, a former physician at Mooresville, practiced here the last 15 years. He leaves the widow and three children.  Aker, a Democrat was elected coroner last year and took office Jan 1, 1949. He had been ill recently and a patient in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. – transcribed by kbz
